Pont l'Abbe

Pont l'Abbe, the Bigouden country's capital

Capital history of the country Bigouden, for Maupassant, Pont l'Abbe is "the city's most typical in Brittany between the pointe du Raz and the Morbihan." "
It owes its name to the monks of Loctudy, who built the first bridge across the river, all at the bottom of the estuary : pons Abbatis, the bridge of the abbot.

THECASTLE. In the thirteenth century, the barons du Pont, powerful lords, built a fortress, strategic position at the entrance to the river. But this stronghold, if eccentric and cumbersome, often changed hands at the option of war, before being shunned by his owners. Today, the castle barons du Pont includes the City Hall, in the dwellings rebuilt in the eighteenth century by one of the few residents barons, and the Museum Bigouden in the turret of the thirteenth century.

BIGOUDEN MUSEUM. It has four levels, a large collection of costumes, headdresses, a traditional furniture as well as ship models. The museum offers a concrete picture of this country to the personality particularly marked. In the basement, magnificent vaulted cellars host temporary exhibitions. It should be completed by the visit of the HOUSE OF COUNTRY BIGOUDEN, ecomuseum located in the farm Kervazegan, on the road of Loctudy. In this farm, around a courtyard with its wells, a house and dependencies (stable, barn, stable), we discover of farm tools, household utensils and furniture.
